Cynthia was able to begin her career after moving into New York and pursuing a modeling career. Her first modeling contract was with Wihelmina Models. This led to her appearance on the cover of Essence Magazine. The first cover for Essence was one of the most popular cover designs in the history of the magazine, it was also a personal favorite of then editor-in chief Susan Taylor. Cynthia was able to secure her second cover shortly thereafter and set the scene for a lengthy career. Then, she went into Paris and Milan. There, she was on the runway for Paris Fashion Week as well as Milan Fashion Week. Cynthia spent almost a whole year in the United States. Once she came back, her popularity skyrocketed. She was hired to create advertising with Maybelline Oil of Olay Macy's. Vogue editorials followed together with Glamour magazine, Elle, Essence Vanity Fair and Glamour. One of Cynthia's biggest career moments was being chosen ahead of Naomi Campbell for a co-starring part alongside Sandra Bernhadt in the film "Without You I'm Nothing."
