Scarlett Johansson (born November 22 1984 New York City New York, U.S.) American actress and vocalist whose dramatic range earned her popular acclaim across a range of styles from period dramas to action and thriller. Johansson was the daughter of an architect, and producer, was born as a child in New York City. Her twin brother Hunter were the smallest of the four siblings. When she was a child she discovered an aptitude in acting. She began auditioning for commercials as young as seven. Soon after she enrolled at the Lee Strasberg Theatre Institute and later attended the Professional Children's School in Manhattan to improve her skills. She first made an appearance as an actor in the film North (1994) in 1994 at nine years old. In her eighteenth year, she appeared alongside Ethan Hawke on Off-Broadway in Sophistry. Johansson was later seen as a character in Just Cause, but she made her breakthrough through Manny & Lo, a film about siblings left behind by their parents who escape. She next earned critical appreciation for her portrayal of an adolescent who suffers an injury that is disfiguring during The Horse Whisperer (1998) and she gained further attention in the role of a cynical teenager Rebecca on the set of Ghost World (2001). Like many actresses who are just beginning to get their feet wet, she would work on her acting skills. She would work in different USA productions while making her debut on stage with Wildflower. She received her education in the Stonestreet Studios Conservatory of the New York University Tisch School of the Arts.
